In the first phase, the Hippos Limited Partnership will realize a multi-use building for the Sports Center and a parking facility for approximately 700 cars in the area. The Sports Center will accommodate facilities for over 20 different sports, a versatile MID Arena, and commercial spaces.

"Phasing provides us with a good opportunity to initiate the Hippos Center project in an otherwise challenging investment market," says Jouni Alho, CEO of Sepos, the main investor in Hippos Limited Partnership.

This phase will allow negotiations with investors and tenants to move forward, and the planning of sports facilities with various sports clubs can continue. Construction of the first phase is expected to be completed in spring 2026.

Simultaneously, the planning for the next phases of the project, the Competence Center and the Ice Sports Center, is progressing.

"The planning for the implementation of the Hippos Center project is progressing rapidly, and construction is expected to be ready to start in early spring. We have received contract tenders for the Sports Center, and negotiations are underway," says Project Manager Kai Ruuhonen.

The total cost of the project is estimated at around €210 million, with a direct and indirect employment impact of more than 1,900 person-years.

" This is good news to Jyväskylä. The launch of such a major project will provide a significant regional boost, especially to the construction sector which is suffering from recession," says Director of Business Development Anne Sandelin.

"We will soon be launching collaboration forums for businesses across the board. We will organise a call for partners in the ecosystem to develop a sports information platform as well as to organize various services and events," says Anne Sandelin.

Pre-construction of the Hippos will start  in November, and the actual site arrangements will be made at the beginning of 2024.
